Two Leesburg men were arrested following a vehicle pursuit that reached 100 miles per hour before ending in a crash.
Dontavious Mykai Bowers, 21, and Stacy Cerese Allamar Harvard, 21, were apprehended after the chase came to an end.
A deputy observed a gray pickup truck with an obstructed license plate headed westbound on Southeast 95th Street Road at 9:17 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He was unable to read the last two characters of the license plate. The vehicle was ultimately found to be unregistered as the previous registration assigned to it was cancelled.
The deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 16400 block of Southeast 95th Street Road by activating his emergency red and blue lights. The vehicle came to a full stop before driving away, the report said.
As a result, the deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit that lasted about 10 minutes and spanned several miles. The vehicle made evasive turns, drove up to speeds of 100 mph, and passed other vehicular traffic in the opposite lane of travel as multiple deputies pursued it, the report said.
The chase ended at 20 Oak Run in Ocala when the vehicle crashed into the residence there. The driver, Bowers, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot as a deputy went after him. He was later apprehended when he was found hiding under a vehicle, the report said.
Harvard also got out of the vehicle and ran around the right side of the house. He was found a short time after on Oak Road and Southeast 110th Street Road where he was placed under arrest, the report said.
Bowers was charged with flee/elude police (flee with disregard of safety to persons or property, nonmoving traffic violation (fail to register motor vehicle) and resist officer (obstruct without violence). He was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
Harvard was charged with resist officer (obstruct without violence) and taken to jail on felony $1,000 bond. He has been arrested multiple times before, including for cashing a stolen check, a felony crime spree, using a stolen debit card and driving a stolen SUV at 100 mph.
