Anthony Sabatini claimed victory Tuesday night over incumbent Doug Shields in the race for Lake County Commission.
Sabatini had 47.84 percent of the vote to Shields’ 40.83 percent of the vote. A third candidate, Sam Simmons, had 11.32 percent of the vote.
Sabatini jumped into the Lake County Commission race when he bowed out of the GOP primary in which he was running against Congressman Daniel Webster. When Webster secured the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, Sabatini opted to run instead for the Lake County Commission.
Sabatini served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2018 to 2022.
His wife, Francheska Sabatini, was also on Tuesday’s ballot. She was running for Lake County Court Judge Group 4. She lost that race to Chad J. Monty. He had 61.01 percent of the vote to her 38.99 percent.
Also, in Lake County, Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays was able to hang onto his job, by fending off challenge Tom Vail.
