A Leesburg man wanted on a warrant was arrested for cocaine possession.
An officer observed a white Honda traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at 3:37 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
The officer conducted a routine traffic inquiry on the license plate, which displayed a full extradition warrant for the driver, 32-year-old Eriandy Torres. The officer turned on his vehicle’s emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop, the report said.
Upon speaking with Torres, the officer asked him to exit the vehicle. Torres was detained during the officer’s investigation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center advised that a hit was sent off to the originating agency, which was then confirmed.
The report also stated a search was conducted on Torres. The officer found two small plastic bags in his right cargo pant pocket containing a white powdery substance. A field test identified the 2.1 grams of substance as cocaine.
The New Jersey native was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
