Ronald L. “Ron” Caskey, Sr., 82, of Tavares, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Born in Clearfield, Kentucky, he moved to Brooksville as a teenager and to Umatilla/Dona Vista in 1958 and finally to Astatula/Tavares 1965. Ron opened Caskey’s Gulf Station then Caskey’s Mower Shop on Old 441 in Tavares in 1963. Ron worked for the Lake County Mosquito Control, Mikey’s Spreader Works, Glen Burhan’s Heavy Equipment, then his own business for 42 years. When he moved to Tavares in 1965, he immediately got involved in the community. Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer with the fire department, Moose Lodge, AMVETS, he coached Little League, women’s softball, was an umpire for Little League, active golfer, welder/fabricator, mechanic, soapbox derby champ, go-karts, Cushman Club of Florida, and a master fisherman. He was a jack of all trades and a master of many! He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary E. Caskey of Tavares, FL; son, Lee Caskey of Tavares, FL; brother, Donnie (Sylvia) Caskey of Tavares, FL; sister, Joyce Rowe of Sarasota, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Jenene Morton, Hester Miller and Nokie Overstreet. Graveside services will be held at Astatula Cemetery, Astatula on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
