An unlicensed driver from Brazil was arrested for driving without a valid license after being pulled over for speeding by over 20 mph on a wet road.

A trooper observed the driver of a black Toyota Corolla, later identified as 20-year-old Joao Carlos Lima, speeding northbound on the Florida Turnpike at 7:46 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The estimated speed was 100 mph in a 70-mph zone with the road being wet. 

The trooper pulled into the paved U-turn slot at Lima passed, and radar clocked the vehicle at 91 mph. As a result, the trooper turned on his emergency lights and sirens. He stopped the vehicle on State Road 91 in the paved median at mile marker 288, the report said. 

The trooper approached the vehicle on the driver’s side and asked Lima for his license. Lima stated he did not have one, instead identifying himself with a United States of America Employment Authorization card. He was also confirmed to be the registered owner of the vehicle while a record check showed he had no Florida driver’s license or ID, the report said. 

 Lima was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. He was also issued a citation for unlawful speed. The native of Brazil was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
