Charles Malcolm Calhoun, of Umatilla, Florida, passed away November 13, 2024 at the age of 91. Born in Umatilla on December 31, 1932 to William Bryant (Brunt) and Cleo Calhoun, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Charles was a citrus grower, an owner of the Umatilla Fruit Company, and a realtor. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia and Florida Southern University. He served in the United States Army and was deployed in Korea.
Over the years Charles was active in-service organizations, city government, and the Methodist Church. He proudly served on the Board of Directors of the United Southern Bank from 1976 to 2008. He received a lifetime achievement award from the Lake County Historical Society. He loved the Florida Gators, Civil War history, and working in his yard and garden.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Alice.
He is survived by his brother Lamar Calhoun of Umatilla; daughter Mary Barker of Melbourne, Florida; son William Calhoun (Mary Ellen) of Guntersville, Alabama; and granddaughter Sara Barker of Henderson, Nevada.
There will be a private graveside service. The family invites friends to remember Charles in a celebration of life on December 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Altoona Charter School, 42630 State Road 19, Altoona.
