A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly grabbing a man by the neck and pushing him during an argument over food.
An officer responded to a battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He arrived on scene to find two other officers and 20-year-old Ahnizsha Faye Jackson.
Jackson advised that she, her newborn daughter and the male victim were coming home from ordering food at a business. While going home, the victim was grabbing food out of a bag. Jackson saw this, grew frustrated and initiated a verbal argument with him, the report said.
Once at the residence, the victim kept arguing with Jackson while she went inside with her child. Jackson ignored the victim and put her newborn in her bedroom. As soon as she did so, the victim approached her yelling about the food, the report said.
As the victim came closer, Jackson put her hand around his neck and pushed him with an open hand strike. He later struck the left side of her head with a closed fist. While speaking with Jackson, the officer observed a discolored bruise on the left side of her head, which corroborated her statement, the report said.
Jackson explained she struck the victim first because of him hurting her in the past. She also stated she could not recall the times she was struck by him. When asked if there were witnesses, she said her mother was present during the incident, the report said.
Jackson’s mother spoke with another officer and confirmed Jackson choked the victim prior to him striking her. She refused to complete a sworn statement and left, the report said.
The officer spoke with the victim next. He advised that he and Jackson were in a verbal argument over taking their food out of the bag. Once at their residence, the argument continued between them, the report said.
While fighting with one another, the victim approached Jackson and yelled. She grabbed his neck as he did so and pushed him with an open hand strike. He struck her with a closed fist against the side of her head. He sustained no visible injuries, the report said.
It was later confirmed that Jackson’s injuries, her statement and the victim’s statement corroborated each other, the report said.
Jackson was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
