An Astatula woman was arrested for marijuana possession when an officer stopped her for speeding and saw smoke coming out of her vehicle.
An officer observed a driver, later identified as 23-year-old Ambriette Ravon Marlow, traveling at about 70mph in a posted 45-mph zone near East North Boulevard and Mills Street on Wednesday night, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Radar showed the speed to be 72mph, causing the officer to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The officer then approached the vehicle which had an overwhelming odor of burnt marijuana and visible smoke coming from the windows. Marlow told the officer that she was actively smoking while driving, the report said.
The officer asked Marlow if there was any other marijuana in the vehicle, to which she stated there was. She also admitted to not having a medical marijuana card issued to her. She instead produced a clear plastic bag from the center console, the report said.
The bag contained a green leafy substance that later tested positive for THC. Using a portable digital scale, the officer weighed the bag and found it to be 26.2 grams. Marlow underwent field sobriety exercises and was determined not to be impaired, the report said.
Marlow was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana. She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
