A Leesburg man was arrested for driving without a Florida license when he could only provide a license from Mexico during a traffic stop.

A deputy spotted a black Chrysler 300 sedan while traveling east on State Road 44 near Interstate 75 around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed that the registered owner, identified as 22-year-old Jose Armando Gonzales-Salinas, did not have a Florida driver’s license.

As a result, the deputy conducted an investigatory stop on the sedan wherein it stopped near the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 219 in Wildwood. He approached Gonzales-Salinas who provided a driver’s license out of Mexico. He indeed did not have a Florida driver’s license, the report said.

Another check with additional law enforcement systems yielded no results for Gonzales-Salinas possessing or being issued a license. Due to these facts, he was placed under arrest and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, the report said.

Gonzales-Salinas was subsequently charged for operating a motor vehicle without valid license. He was released from the detention center after posting $150 bond.
