A deputy observed a red SUV with only the passenger side headlight on traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 441 approaching Fern Drive around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He got behind the vehicle, which pulled into a Kangaroo gas station at 1705 U.S. Hwy. 441, and initiated a traffic stop.

The deputy approached and spoke with the driver who identified himself via his Michigan ID as 41-year-old Donald Allen Grant. His ID card number was given to the Communications Center, and they advised that his Michigan driver’s license was revoked. The deputy confirmed this information through a database which showed his status as revoked but did not give a date, the report said.

However, it did show that Grant’s current driver’s license non-commercial status was “State ID,” and it was issued on July 14, 2022. Grant also advised that he moved to Florida about one month prior and had not gotten a valid Florida license. The deputy tried to run his information through another database but got no results, the report said.

The Arizona native was ultimately arrested on charge of driving while license suspended (first offense). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
