A suspect has been arrested after making a Lowe’s purchase with a stolen credit card number.
Ernest Butler, 52, of Fruitland Park, was arrested Sunday on a Lake County warrant charging him with theft and fraud.
He went to the Lowe’s store in Mount Dora on Nov. 16 to pick up an online order totaling $1,157, according to an affidavit of probable cause from the Mount Dora Police Department.
The owner of the credit card, who lives in Tennessee, challenged the charge and said he did not know Butler, who has previously been arrested on a charge of burglary in Broward County.
A surveillance image of Butler at the store was shared within the Lowe’s network. Another manager recognized Butler and said he was a suspect in thefts at other Lowe’s stores. A manager who had been on duty at the Mount Dora store when Butler picked up his online order, picked Butler out of a photo lineup.
He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bond.
