Michael Basil Vitale passed away on the afternoon of October 24, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He loved God, his family, the martial arts, hunting, archery, golf, and everything outdoors.
Michael was born on August 24, 1937, to Joseph and Lillian (Powell) Vitale, and was one of three sons who were born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended local schools and immediately after high school served in the US Navy for two years, where he learned his trade as an electrician. His career at Union Electric/Ameren in St. Louis continued for 38 years until his retirement, where he was part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1439.
While in bootcamp, he asked his high school sweetheart to marry him, which they did on May 19, 1956. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Helen (Janet) Vitale and 3 daughters, Catherine (Scott) Baker, Sandra Wiebe and Suzanne (Mike) Tapy, grandchildren Jason, Ryan, Amy, Danielle and Jared, great grandchildren Kameron, Antonio, Quinn and Reese, great-great grandchild Kayden, many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 8:30am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1330 Sunshine Ave., Leesburg FL 34748.
