A Leesburg man with a young child in his care was arrested after allegedly stealing a hoverboard from a Walmart in The Villages.
Deputies responded to a retail theft at Walmart, located at Buffalo Ridge Plaza, at about 6 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the loss prevention officer advised that 23-year-old Sebastian Gill Dupuis took merchandise off a shelf in the toy section, placed it in his cart and left the store without paying. All of the events were recorded through Walmart’s digital surveillance, the report said.
The footage showed Dupuis with a young child in a car seat walking through the aisles. When he was in the toy section, Dupuis took multiple items, including a hoverboard, from the shelf and passed all points of sale, the report said.
Deputies also spoke with multiple females who were seen on the footage entering the store with Dupuis. They positively identified him and advised he was at the Wawa on 11770 US-301 in Oxford with one of their young children, the report said.
Due to the statements and video evidence, Dupuis was arrested and charged with petit theft. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $500.
