Leesburg city commissioners this week approved a new wet and dry storage waitlist policy for the city’s Venetian Cove Marina.

The need for a new policy was discussed by the commissioners when they approved a $1.58 million remodeling of the marina earlier this month. The remodeling project will add 42 wet slips to the 44 slips presently at the marina. There has long been a waitlist for the existing slips and the new policy should streamline the process and raise some additional revenue for the marina.

The waitlist policy:

1. Vacant slips will be offered to individuals on the wait list. For a person to appear on the slip waiting list they shall:

A. Complete and file a slip request application with Marina Administration. Applicants are solely responsible for maintaining a current address, email, and telephone numbers on their application.

B. Pay slip deposit fee.

1) All persons on the Wet and Dry Storage waiting list, either existing or new, shall make a $150.00 slip deposit.

2) The slip deposit shall be applied to the first month’s slip rent. The $150 deposit will be refunded if an applicant removes their name from the storage wait list by choice, or if an applicant is removed from the list by Marina Administration for declining a slip.

2. Position on the slip waiting list. Waiting list position for new applications shall be determined by the date the correctly completed application and deposit is received by the Marina Administration either online or via walk-in at the Marina Office, 250 Ball Park Road, Leesburg, FL.

3. Slip offers shall be made chronologically (oldest date to the most recent). When a slip becomes available, an offer notification will be made by Marina Administration. To accept the offer, the applicant must:

A. Reply in the affirmative within 2 business days of the date when positive notification was made with the applicant.

B. Complete Marina storage contract.

C. Vessel acquisition: Have a vessel registered to the applicant in the slip within thirty (30) days from the date Marina Administration received the applicant’s contract and slip rental payment. Failure to have a seaworthy vessel registered to the applicant in the slip within 30 days of acquiring the slip may result in termination of rental agreement and removal from the slip.

4. Marina Administration Staff shall make every effort to contact the person in the top position of the slip waiting list either by email or telephone when a storage space becomes available. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide the most current contact information.

5. No-contact, failure to respond, or a “not interested” response, to the slip offer notification after 2 business days, shall be interpreted as – applicant is no longer in need of a slip and the next individual on the list will be contacted. Applicant’s deposit will be refunded and they will be removed from the waiting list.

6. Persons removed from the slip waiting list may restore their names to the bottom of the waiting list by filling out a new application. If a past deposit was returned, a new deposit will be required.

7. Slip fees listed on the waiting list application are subject to change. Applicant is not guaranteed the monthly rate stated on the application form. Rates may increase periodically.

8. Deposits shall be either check, credit, or money order. In the event a check is returned for NSF or other reason, the applicant will have 5 workdays to remedy or will be removed from the list.

9. Applications may be completed online, or delivered via walk-in to the Venetian Cove Marina at 250 Ball Park Road, Leesburg, FL.

10. Positions on the slip waiting list shall not be transferred, traded or sold.

11. The applicant must provide one deposit per vessel. Applicants may select a wet slip, dry slip, or both on the application. For example, if an applicant has one vessel to store in either wet or dry slip they may select both on the application and submit one deposit.
