Joe Campbell, a remarkable athlete, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away on July 9, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be celebrated. Born in Wilmington, DE, Joe’s journey was marked by extraordinary achievements and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Joe’s athletic prowess was evident from his early days as a Salesianum graduate. His exceptional talent and dedication led to his induction into the Delaware Hall of Fame, a testament to his outstanding contributions to the world of sports. Joe’s passion for football continued to flourish at the University of Maryland, where he proudly represented the Terrapins and played in four bowl games, showcasing his immense skills and determination.
Following his collegiate career, Joe’s exceptional abilities led him to be selected as a first-round NFL draft pick. He went on to become an integral player and a victorious teammate of the Oakland Raiders in NFL Superbowl XV, where he battled against the Philadelphia Eagles. Joe’s impact on the field was undeniable, leaving an indelible mark on the sport he loved.
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Joe’s faith was a guiding force in his life. A religious man, he found strength and solace in his spirituality. Furthermore, he was a devoted father, showering his two daughters with love, support, and guidance. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Vincent and Genevieve Campbell.
Joe is survived by his daughters Daryn (Zach) Garnant and Micah (Mark) Mirigian; brother, Patrick Joseph (Diana Milburn) Campbell; grandchildren Jack Campbell Garnant, Evelyn Mirigian, and Timothy Mirigian.
A Graveside service will be held Wednesday July 19, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery in Eustis, Florida at 10 AM.
