The Leesburg Commission will be considering a reduction in the millage rate used to determine property tax rates on property located in the city.
The current rate adopted millage rate in Fiscal Year 2023 is 4.0192 mills. The proposed Fiscal Year 2024 millage rate will be 3.4752 which is a 13.5 percent decrease over the current millage rate of 4.0192.
The commission will consider authorizing the city manager to submit a tentative certificate of taxable value for fiscal year 2023-24 to the Lake County property appraiser by the end of July. The final millage rate will be adopted in September, at the conclusion of the budget process.
The commission will also consider a resolution establishing a Leesburg In-Fill Housing Program to govern the transfer of residential properties to not- for-profit agencies for the construction of single family homes. By creating the In-Fill program the city hopes to eradicate blight and create affordable housing in a self rejuvenating program. The city would be partnering with the Community Development Corporation of Leesburg (CDC), Homes In Partnership, Incorporated (HIP), Lake-Sumter Habitat for Humanity, Inc. and West Leesburg Community Development Corporation (WLCDC) .The city would reserve the right to fund, donate real property or otherwise amend the program.
