A Leesburg man with a history of panhandling at Walmart was arrested after being caught trespassing at the store for the second time in five months.
Police responded to the store, located at 2501 Citrus Boulevard, in reference to 67-year-old Dewey Earl Tanner trespassing on the property at about 12:43 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
Upon arrival, the officer spotted Tanner standing in the grassy area directly beside the northern-most entrance to the parking lot, which is Walmart property. Another officer from the Leesburg Police Department said he observed Tanner standing in the parking lot and panhandling, the report said.
The report noted that Tanner was originally trespassed from the property in December 2022, and he was issued criminal citations for trespassing on February 10 and June 12 of this year. He was arrested in February and released after a four-day sentence, as well.
The West Virginia native was subsequently arrested and charged with trespass after warning. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $500.
