Leesburg city commissioners have unanimously passed a resolution to enter into an agreement to pay The Villages to provide fire and ambulance service to those Leesburg residents who will live in the Villages of West Lake.
The interlocal agreement between the Leesburg and the Village Center Community Development District will require the district to provide fire prevention and control, emergency medical services (non- transport only) and rescue services including fire stations, water mains and hydrants, fire trucks, and other vehicles and equipment. The District agrees to provide and maintain all equipment in suitable condition and readiness for immediate use for providing fire prevention and control services.
The city will pay an annual fee of $160 per residence, based on the number of certificate of occupancies issued by Dec. 31, 2023. Every year thereafter the District and city shall recount the number of residences to ensure proper accounting. The city shall pay to the District a lump sum of the total annual fee due by Jan. 31 of each year. The Villages of West Lake will add close to 9,000 new homes to the Leesburg tax rolls as well as several thousands square feet of commercial space in the near future.
