A Lake County man was killed after crashing into a tow truck on the Florida Turnpike.
The 53-year-old Groveland man had been at the wheel of a 2000 Isuzu Hombre at 5:44 a.m. Thursday southbound on the Florida Turnpike in Orange County when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tow truck and tow truck operator, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The tow truck driver was outside of his truck which had its lights activated. He was working a single-vehicle crash along with a FHP trooper who also had his patrol car’s lights activated. The tow truck driver, a 42-year-old man from Poinciana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Groveland man was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A 51-year-old Clermont man riding as a passenger in the Groveland man’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
