James Massie Elwell

James loved the Lord and served as deacon, usher, and an untold number of other duties at First Baptist Church Fruitland Park and First Baptist Church Leesburg.James Massie Elwell, 86, of Leesburg, FL passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

James was born in Sweet Springs, MO, to the late Kenneth and Margaret Elwell. James graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1954 and served in the US Navy from 1955-1959. Afterwards he married his high school sweetheart Mary Lee and moved to Orlando, FL. Seven years later, they moved to Fruitland Park, FL, and spent the next 55 years in a small, quiet neighborhood near Spring Lake.

James loved the Lord and served as deacon, usher, and an untold number of other duties at First Baptist Church Fruitland Park and First Baptist Church Leesburg. James was an avid woodworker and found great joy in making and giving away his creations.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lee Elwell, son James Michael Elwell, brother Donald Elwell, and two sisters: Sharon Hemme and Violet Forsyth. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022, 2:00 pm at Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, FL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Leesburg.
