With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a great gentleman. Our father, Gerald Wayne Walker, has joined our beloved mother, Margaret,in Heaven.
Kind, generous, decent-there are not enough words to adequately describe this good man.
Gerald “Jerry” is survived by his daughters, Katherine and Martha; his grandchildren, Renée, Kim and Heidi; and his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Kora, Jordan, Matthew, Brandon and Nate.
Gerald gave his family unconditional love and security. He was doer, a thinker and a great conversationalist. His creative talents, skills and craftsmanship were innumerable. Gerald was a sunny optimist with a bright intellect who embraced new adventures every day of his life. He welcomed and made friends easily. His was a life well and happily lived, and always in God’s grace.
Gerald was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and spent his childhood and adulthood in Richmond, Virginia. In 1972, he and Margaret set course for a life in Sarasota, Florida. Upon his retirement from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, they moved down the coast to Venice. His last years were spent in Leesburg, Florida, near his great granddaughters, Sophia and Kora.
