A Tavares woman was arrested in Leesburg for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was on traffic patrol early Thursday morning when he clocked a car driven by 41-year-old Alicia Mason traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph zone. The deputy stopped Mason near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and College Drive in Leesburg.
When the deputy asked Mason for her driver’s license, she replied that she was “only trying to get home,” according to the arrest report. When asked if she had a valid driver’s license Mason said, “No.” A records check showed that she has five previous convictions for driving while suspended as well as numerous drug arrests.
After placing Mason under arrest and securing her in his patrol car, the deputy performed an inventory search of her vehicle prior to its being towed. He found a ziplock sandwich bag in the center console that contained 39 grams of Ephedrine, a controlled substance.
Mason was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of of trafficking amphetamine and driving while suspended. Bond was set at $51,000.
