A Leesburg man is accused of stealing two plates of chicken wings and a corn dog from a local Walmart.
Ronald Woods, 61, was arrested at 1:48 p.m. Sunday and charged with shoplifting from the Walmart at 2501 Citrus Blvd. in Leesburg.
A loss prevention officer saw Woods grab a bag from the self checkout lanes, proceed to the deli, and then order $10.94 worth of hot food which he placed in the bag before heading for the exit without paying for the items, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
When the employee confronted him, Woods claimed he had forgotten to pay, but she told him it was too late. As she began texting another employee to call the police, he fled the store with the food, Leesburg police say.
Police caught up with Woods at the corner of Grizzard Street and Phoenix Avenue in Fruitland Park, where he was placed under arrest.
Woods has three prior theft convictions, raising his latest offense to a third-degree felony theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released on $4,000 bond. His court date is set for Aug. 30.
